Fifth Spirituality and Sustainability Colloquium Is March 18
On Monday, March 18, the University will welcome Donovan Schaefer for the fifth WCU Spirituality and Sustainability Colloquium. His talk will consider the relationship between religion, bodies, and animals as he draws reflections from contemporary philosophy of emotion and evolutionary biology.
Schaefer is an associate professor of religious studies and core faculty for gender, sexuality, and women’s studies at the University of Pennsylvania. His acclaimed book Wild Experiment: Feeling Science and Secularism After Darwin won the 2023 Ludwik Fleck Prize from the Society for Social Studies of Science; the 2023 Book Prize from the International Society for Science and Religion; and was a finalist for the 2023 Award for Excellence in the Study of Religion, Analytical-Descriptive Studies, from the American Academy of Religion.
The free program opens with light refreshments at 4 p.m., followed by Schaefer’s talk at 4:30 p.m. in Sykes Student Union Theater (110 West Rosedale Avenue).
