Wells School of Music Cello Professor Releases New Album with London Symphony Orchestra
Celebrated cellist Ovidiu Marinescu, Professor of Violoncello at West Chester University’s Wells School of Music, released a new album with PARMA Recordings titled London Cello Connection on March 10, 2023.
London Cello Connection features the premiere contemporary compositions of eight exceptional composers with Marinescu on Cello, accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Miran Vaupotić.
The eight composers - Marvin Lamb, John Robertson, Katherine Price, Joanna Estelle, Diane Jones, L Peter Deutsch, Keith Kramer, and Arthur Gottschalk – were all selected by invitation. Their abbreviated compositions are all five minutes in length.
Marinescu says, “I was extremely honored to be part of this project. It was a remarkable experience to record with the London Symphony Orchestra and to interpret the work of these eight exceptional composers. Though the eight compositions are only five minutes in length, they are all captivating and expressive in their own unique ways.”
Hailed as having an “emotive, lush sound” and “superb technical command,” Marinescu is native to Romania and has been heard around the world.
