Dept. of Theatre & Dance Presents Vibrations Dance Concert
WCU's Dept. of Theatre & Dance and the West Chester University Dance Company present the Spring Dance Concert, Vibrations, on Thursday, April 27; Friday, April 28; and Saturday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, April 29 at 2 p.m. in the Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre, Swope Music Building & Performing Arts Center, 817 S. High Street, West Chester. The program will feature the creative choreography and design of WCU students in a variety of styles. General Admission tickets are $12 and children’s tickets are $6. Both can be purchased here: http://wcupatix.com/theatreanddance.
Directed by Professor of Dance Gretchen Studlien-Webb, Vibrations will feature 11 dances, with styles ranging in the contemporary spectrum (Jazz, Modern, and Contemporary.) In addition to the scheduled program, students enrolled in the special topics course in dance making and performing will present some non-traditional, site-specific pieces in the auditorium and areas around the lobby preceding the concert and/or during intermission. The course is taught by Associate Professor of Dance Maria Urrutia.
“The audience should be affected differently as the performers are not dancing in their traditional stage spaces. They are breaking the 4th wall,” Urrutia reflects. “We hope that the audience will be more invested in the performances because they are happening in places they do not expect. I believe it keeps them on edge.”
Behind the scenes, guest light designer artist Jon DeGaetano ’10, who earned a B.A. from WCU’s Theatre & Dance department, will return to help bring the performances to life. The program is entirely choreographed by students.
Student choreographers include Deyona Archer, Emily Gilligan, Tommy Gryga, Sage Levitz, Alexa Lord, Mary Lynch, Sara Magrino, Holly McMenamin, and Elizabeth Powell.
