WCU's Wells School of Music Students to Perform Sounds of the Caribbean at Uptown!
Students from West Chester University’s Wells School of Music will perform Sounds of the Caribbean at Uptown! Knauer Performing Art Center on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. Presented by the Wells School of Music and Windish Music and Directed by Marc Jacoby, the performance takes place at 226 N. High Street, West Chester. Tickets are $15 - $25 and available for purchase at https://uptownwestchester.org/.
WCU Latin Jazz and Steel Bands join with Dr. Marc Jacoby, guest artists, and Wells School of Music jazz faculty for this special concert event. The concert features the heat of the Mambo, Merengue and Soca, as well as Calypso, Bolero and Bachata. Guest artists include:
- Tito Carillio is one of the finest trumpeters to emerge from Chicago's rich jazz trumpet legacy. He is an accomplished trumpeter, educator, bandleader, and composer, and since 1996 he has been a fixture in the Chicago jazz and Latin music scenes.
- John Wooton is a rudiment specialist who also works as a singer and steel pan player. He is an international artist and clinician for several percussion companies and is in his 30th year of teaching at the University of Southern Mississippi.
