West Chester University Cheer Team Brings Home the Silver!
WCU Dance Team Places 3rd in Open Hip Hop & Rammy Places 8th in Open Mascot
As the spring semester hits the ground running at West Chester University, so has the WCU Cheer Team. West Chester University's Cheer Team recently earned a second-place finish in the Open All-Girl Game Day division at the elite competition produced by the Universal Cheerleaders Association and Universal Dance Association (UCA & UDA) held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at The Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. To clinch their silver medals, the team competed against 24 squads. The WCU Cheer Team is now the highest ranking D2 team in the U.S. for the second year in a row.
Drawing nearly 225 cheerleading and dance teams from 44 states, the national collegiate competition brought numerous skilled athletes together to showcase their talents and represent their universities.
“They work so hard all year long to support the entire WCU community and to proudly represent WCU around the area,” says Cheer Coach Kelly Moyer. “They deserve the recognition for this prestigious accomplishment!”
WCU Athletics is quite proud, too, and gave the Cheer Team a congratulations shout-out during a men’s PSAC basketball game against Shepherd University on January 23. The WCU Cheer Team demonstrated their winning cheer skills during the game as WCU’s men’s basketball team edged a 70-69 win during the doubleheader.
Very proud winners of the competition also included members of the West Chester University Dance Team. During the competition, the team placed 3rd in Open Hip Hop, 7th in Open Game Day and 9th in Jazz. The West Chester University Dance Team is a student-run organization that performs at University football games, men’s and women’s basketball games, as well as other special occasions.
In addition, the University’s beloved mascot, Rammy, placed 8th in the Open Mascot division!
