Dept. of Art + Design Showcases the Work of 2022 GraduatesBFA Show

It’s that time of year again where the two public gallery spaces at West Chester University are adorned with the work of Art + Design students from the University’s College of Arts & Humanities. The Art + Design Department will begin showing works from the 2022 BFA graduates on April 25th, and the work remains on display through May 15th, 2022. Work is being exhibited in both campus galleries: the John H. Baker Gallery, E.O. Bull Center for the Arts, 2 E. Rosedale Avenue, and in the Knauer Gallery, Swope Music Building and Performing Arts Center, 817 S. High Street, West Chester. The exhibits are both free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm.

BFA ShowThe BFA exhibition is a yearly display of graduating seniors’ capstone projects. Each student whose art will be featured works on their capstone body of work for the duration of the semester, and the exhibit showcases a breadth of pieces from the graduating class.

Faculty curator and Associate Professor of Art, David Jones, says, “Every April, West Chester University’s public galleries exhibit a comprehensive collection of original works created by Bachelor of Fine Arts candidates in the Department of Art + Design. This month-long event calls forth the creative vanguard of West Chester University’s visual arts program in the form of paintings, sculpture, identities, ceramics, animations, illustrations, drawings, prints, and many other mediums developed under the practiced hands of our outstanding student artists and designers.”

He adds, “As has been said, ‘the roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet,’ so too has the all too frequently arduous journey to this moment challenged many a young student, only to draw out the full weight of their creative force. Consequently, this show is equal part reflection and celebration, and acknowledgment of both experience and summation. The faculty of the Department of Art + Design are proud to congratulate this year’s participants on their perseverance, their curiosity, and their skill in bringing this stunning show to life. We encourage our peers and friends around the campus to join us in enjoying this exceptional body of work.”BFA Show
