Dr.%20Eric%20Sweet's%20lab,%20The%20Sweet%20Lab,%20is%20interested%20in%20the%20cognitive%20and%20emotional%20changes%20that%20occur%20in%20Parkinson%E2%80%99s%20disease%20along%20with%20the%20more%20well-known%20motor%20symptoms%20such%20as%20essential%20tremor%20and%20shuffling%20gait.%20Up%20to%2080%25%20of%20people%20living%20with%20Parkinson%E2%80%99s%20disease%20experience%20depression,%20dementia,%20or%20cognitive%20decline.%20This%20makes%20the%20disease%20much%20more%20difficult%20for%20the%20patients%20and%20families%20to%20cope%20with%20the%20disease.%20Current%20therapies%20used%20to%20address%20the%20motor%20symptoms%20of%20PD%20do%20not%20adequately%20treat%20non-motor%20symptoms%20so%20understanding%20the%20processes%20in%20the%20brain%20that%20lead%20to%20these%20symptoms%20is%20critical%20to%20finding%20ways%20to%20treat%20them.%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%20%0AThey%20use%20the%20mouse%20as%20a%20model%20system%20to%20investigate%20the%20role%20that%20genetic%20and%20environmental%20factors%20have%20on%20learning%20and%20emotion%20in%20Parkinson%E2%80%99s%20disease.%20Students%20working%20in%20the%20lab%20will%20have%20the%20opportunity%20to%20study%20how%20Parkinson's%20disease%20alters%20the%20brain%20to%20affect%20behavior%20in%20mice,%20the%20molecular%20pathways%20responsible%20for%20learning%20and%20memory,%20and%20neuronal%20activity.%20
