MY FAIR LADY

West Chester University Department of Theatre and Dance, in cooperation with The College of Arts and Humanities, presents MY FAIR LADY, from November 8 – 15, 2018, in the MainStage Theatre in E.O. Bull Center, 2 E. Rosedale Avenue, West Chester. Tickets range from $13 - $16 and can be purchased at www.wcupatix.com. Brenna Geffers directs.

MY FAIR LADY is the beloved and iconic musical that took the world by storm when it opened on Broadway in 1956. It was an immediate critical and popular success, setting the record for the longest run of any show on Broadway up to that time.

Based on George Bernard Shaw’s book, Pygmalion, MY FAIR LADY boasts memorable music by Frederick Loewe and book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner. In this stripped-down production of MY FAIR LADY, eleven ensemble members, accompanied by two pianos, recreate the story of Eliza Doolittle, the Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins.

West Chester University taps local theatre director, Brenna Geffers, to direct MY FAIR LADY. Geffers is a Philadelphia-based freelance director who has worked with many of Philadelphia’s premiere theatre companies including Theatre Exile, EgoPo Classic Theater, Curio Theatre Company and Tribe of Fools. She is a four-time nominee for a Barrymore Award, Philadelphia’s awards for excellence in theatre.

Geffers says, “I have always wanted to direct students at West Chester University. I know most of West Chester’s theatre faculty because they also perform and work professionally in Philadelphia. We’ve talked for years about me coming to work with West Chester students, and the timing for MY FAIR LADY was right.”

She adds, “I love working with students in a University setting. There is a state of discovery when you are building new relationships. The work becomes a result of that. It’s very exciting. Plus, the facilities here at West Chester are excellent and the design staff, and the students who work with them, are top-notch.”

Geffers has also directed for Temple University, University of Pennsylvania and Rowan University.
