English Students Present Their Work at Research Day 2016

The Department of English was well-represented by its students at the Spring 2016 Research Day held Tuesday, 5 April 2016, in Sykes Ballroom. Undergraduate Allison Velez presented a poster that depicted her critical-creative project, "Filling in the Gaps: Concepts of Collegiate Mental Health in Tom Perrotta's Joe College,” while Mackenzie Jaros used her poster presentation, “Biographical Studies of Philadelphia Authors,” to explain her recently completed biography of Helen W. Mallon for the Pennsylvania Literary and Cultural Heritage Map. Graduate student Mary Freed also delivered a poster presentation of her study, “The Lecturer’s Intertextual Function and Purpose.” Although not an English major, Cameron Martin nonetheless created a poster display summarizing his lengthy study of contemporary book censorship in America, “Literary Censorship of Public Institutions in the late 20th- and early 21st-century United States” that he researched and wrote for ENG 270: Introduction to Manuscript, Print, and Digital Cultures.
