Advice for New Golden Rams
By Colleen Brown, Class of 2023
College is the place where students not only graduate with a degree but also start their new journey. There are endless possibilities to fulfill the "college experience" at West Chester University.
But you may be left wondering: How exactly can I fulfill that experience?
Getting involved on campus is a great way to make friends and try new activities.
How can I join a club?
At the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters, West Chester has a student involvement fair where you can learn about our 300-plus clubs and organizations. If you wish to join a club that pertains to your major or keeps you active, then check out the involvement fair. If you want to be a part of making changes to campus life, join student government.
Is it possible to get a job on campus?
During your time at West Chester, there are plenty of job opportunities on campus. Whether you are interested in being a tour guide or referee for intramural sports, there is bound to be a job that suits your needs. Within your first few weeks at West Chester, there will be emails in your inbox from employers who are interested in hiring. Not only does having a job earn you money, but it is also a great way to communicate and become friends with your peers.
Are there activities that take place on the weekend?
There are many activities that take place, but our most popular activity is Rams After Hours, which occurs every Friday. The Student Activities Council hosts events which can range from drag queen performances to Game of Thrones nights. Whatever the event taking place, there is always delicious free food provided! Also, they tend to give free WCU merch to students who attend.
West Chester University is the real deal for giving opportunities for students to be a part of the community. Whether it is joining Greek life or participating in theatre, you can find an organization to join. Getting involved is a great way to meet new people and make friends. I know you'll love WCU!
