The only charges you incur would be the normal fees charged by your mobile service provider for receiving text messages. Can my parents or guardian subscribe to WCU Alert/e2campus? Parents cannot subscribe directly to text messaging portion (e2Campus) of the WCU Alert system; the university has arranged for a limited number of subscriptions only for WCU students, faculty and staff members. However, each student is able to add additional emails addresses' and cell phone phone numbers to their accounts. Is WCU Alert/e2campus just for cell phones? The text messaging portion (e2Campus) of the WCU Alert system can send messages to any device that can receive text message (SMS) through cellular service, such as cell phones, text pagers, BlackBerrys, and some wireless PDAs. In addition, you can also opt to have the messages sent to your e-mail address. When will I get a WCU Alert/e2campus message? The university has created a well-defined set of situations that would prompt an emergency message. The WCU Alert system will be activated when there is a critical need to transmit urgent information to the campus community. Here are some examples:
How can I get more information once I receive a WCU Alert/e2campus message? Due to the limitations of text messaging, the messages will be very brief and contain vital and immediate information. More information about an emergency message will be made available through the other forms of communication available to the university, including messages posted to www.wcupa.edu, broadcast e-mails, and announcements to local media. Will I get advertising messages from WCU Alert/e2campus? No. e2Campus will not be used to deliver any kind of advertising content, and mobile numbers will not be shared with any third parties. Why is WCU Alert/e2campus necessary? The university has a wide variety of methods to communicate with members of the campus community. In recent years, the number of mobile telephones has dramatically increased, and text messaging has become a key method to reach people immediately. The text messaging portion (e2Campus) of the WCU Alert system allows the university to use the most up-to-date communication method to reach students, faculty and staff in the event of an emergency in addition to the university's other established communication methods. What if I don’t have a cell phone or my cell phone doesn’t have text messaging? Text messaging is just one of the communication channels used in the event of an emergency. It is not replacing any of our other previous methods of communication. It is building on those existing methods to keep up with the latest technology used by many members of our community. How do I unsubscribe, if I no longer wish to receive messages from WCU Alert/e2campus? Log into your e2Campus account to opt-out (unsubscribe). You may opt-out of one particular group or the entire service. |
