Biography
Vernon Odom is a “Professor of Practice” in the Department of Communication and Media, bringing a wealth of professional experience to the classroom. He is a veteran broadcast journalist, who retired in 2019 as senior reporter for WPVI (6ABC) in Philadelphia. He started his broadcasting career in Atlanta, working in both radio and television. He moved to Philadelphia in 1976 to accept a reporting job at 6ABC. Mr. Odom has covered some of the biggest news events in the world, including the Martin Luther King assassination, 11 Presidential elections, the MOVE confrontations, the Three Mile Island disaster, the Clarence Thomas hearings, the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, the O.J. Simpson Trial, the fall of the Soviet Union and the release of Nelson Mandela. Mr. Odom received a bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta, and a graduate certificate in journalism from Columbia University in New York City.
