Achieve! was developed in Fall 2016 as a support service for the FY4 student population at West Chester University. The FY4 population was given the opportunity to enroll in more than 12 credits (previously this population was limited to 12 credits during their first semester) starting the Fall 2016 semester. Due to the increase in credit enrollment, the University wanted to offer these students additional support in the form of individual student consultations. Each FY4 student was paired with a graduate-level student at the University to meet with periodically throughout their first year at the University. The Achieve! students were also encouraged to attend Academic Success Workshops on topics including: Test Taking, Time Management, Note Taking, Essay Writing, and Finals Prep.

As we measure the Achieve! student population performance in comparison with former FY4 cohorts, we see an overall average increase in credit enrollment, credit completion, and cumulative GPA. Even further, Achieve! students who meet more often with their Graduate Consultant, and engage in a higher number of the Academic Success Workshops, are proven to be more likely to earn higher grades in their courses.
Throughout Fall 2016-Spring 2017, 7 Achieve! Graduate Consultants held over 1,280 individual meetings with over 200 Achieve! students. Achieve! students attended over 700 Academic Success Workshop sessions.
