Teaching: I teach courses in Children’s & Young Adult literature through a cultural studies lens. I also teach the occasional poetry course (Feminist Poetry, Modern American Poetry) and senior research seminars.
Research: I am interested in collective memory and how marginalized voices are represented in larger stories. I study portrayals of Japanese American incarceration in children’s & YA lit and children’s experiences of occupation and internment in World War II.
Service: I currently serve as Assistant Chair of my department and on numerous department committees. I co-chair the University’s Faculty Mentoring Committee and Poetry Center Faculty Advisory Committee.
Interests/Passions Outside of Academe: Travel! This photo is at Angkor Wat, Cambodia in 2010. The world is a fascinating place and I love to learn about it. Closer to home, I garden, cook, and drink wine. My goal this year is to start volunteering in my community.
Times when I can meet: My teaching schedule changes every semester! I’m usually on campus 3-4 days a week.
