Stay Focused for the Future: Edinboro Summer Reading Camp by Mr. Victor Perry Hudson, Graduate Assistant at Edinboro University, and Ms. Peyton Hanlon, Graduate Student at Edinboro University
The Edinboro Summer Reading Camp is a five week literacy program created to provide multiple learning experiences in all aspects of literacy development for inner-city students grades K-6. The camp takes place on the Edinboro campus. The impact of the camp goes beyond supporting the youth of inner-city Erie. Our Education students are given the opportunity to work with students of diverse socio-economic, cultural, and family structures, of which they may not have been exposed to. An added focus of this year's camp was the integration of Edinboro University's athletes. This focus allowed the camp to showcase the relationship between academics and sports.
Intersectionality: Building Diversity and Inclusion through The Commissions by Emily Chylinski, Graduate Student at Edinboro University
"Intersectionality: Building Diversity and Inclusion Through the Commissions" This presentation will shine light on the President's three Commissions: The Diversity Commission, The LGBTQIA Commission, and The President's Commission on the Status of Women. The Diversity Commission works collaboratively across disciplines, departments and student groups to advance diversity as an institutional and educational imperative. They participate in the implementation of the selected aspects of the University's Strategic Diversity Plan, in collaboration with the Director of Social Equity and recommend initiatives that have a campus-wide impact on the educational value of diversity. The mission of the Edinboro University President's Commission on the Status of Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transgender People, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual and Allies is to facilitate the development of a university community that is equitable and inclusive of all sexual orientations and gender expressions through advocacy, education, assessment, and activism. The President's Commission on the Status of Women acknowledges the unique challenges of women in a university setting and works to create and equitable, just, and supportive campus environment.
