How does online learning work?
Online learning allows you to use the Internet to complete a set curriculum without
being present in a regular face-to-face classroom. Instruction is delivered primarily
asynchronously, where the teacher and learner are not physically at the same place
at the same time. Students work with materials individually or as groups. They interact
directly with each other and with the faculty typically through e-mail, threaded online
discussions, chat, and sometimes through voice or video communication during synchronous
sessions. Convenience, cost and time of travel and flexibility of schedule are just
a few of the reasons students choose online learning.
Are online credit courses equivalent to on-site courses?
Yes. The standards and expectations for our online programs mirror our traditional

Yes, most of the programs can be completed 100% online. Some programs also offer a
hybrid option, where students can take some courses online and some courses on campus.
Our MBA program, for example, offers online, hybrid, as well as on-campus options.
Do I have to log in at a certain time on specific days?
No, the program allows you the flexibility to log in at your convenience. Students
can complete course work anytime and any day of the week. It is mostly a matter of
personal preference. One key to success is to follow assignment/project instructions
and communicate regularly with faculty and other students.
Is the program accredited?
West Chester University of Pennsylvania is accredited by the Middle States Association,
and the program is approved by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board

If accepted, how many hours a week would I need to commit to the program?
Typical hour requirements for a course average the same time commitment as a typical
three-credit on-campus course. This may vary depending on course requirements.
Will my degree or certification reflect that I obtained it by online learning?
No, all degrees and/or certificates offered by West Chester University of Pennsylvania
are identical in appearance. Because the standards and objectives of the traditional
and online programs are consistent, there is no need to differentiate the degrees
or certificates awarded.
When are classes offered?
Classes are offered on the same semester schedule as on-campus classes. You may check
with the academic department for more details.
Do I have to attend any on-campus classes?
The majority of our distance education programs are offered entirely online with no
on-campus meetings required; however, there are a few programs that require some campus
meetings. You may contact the program coordinator listed in the Online Offerings section for details.
Can online students get a student ID card?
Yes, online students can get a student ID card (ramcard); however, the student needs
to be on campus to take their photos and obtain the physical card.
