West Chester University has been preparing health and physical education teachers since 1889. Our reputation for quality teacher preparation is well known and local school districts recognize the value of a WCU Health and Physical Education degree. We have an extensive alumni network; in fact many area teachers are alumni.
Teacher candidates are immersed in local schools from the very first class. Teachers and schools are hand-selected so teacher candidates have the best experience possible.
Good programs are never static; they continually evolve to reflect changes in the field. Recently the program added two entirely new health education field courses and an additional fitness education class.
The faculty are leaders in their field each with a wide array of teaching interests, scholarly pursuits and service. They care deeply about student success and strive to provide the best education possible. All in-major classes are taught by full-time, tenured faculty. We invite you to view the accomplishments of each faculty member on the faculty page.
The program is designed in a cohort model where teacher candidates generally take classes with students who entered the University the same year. This format allows students to build connections and friendships quickly in a supportive environment.
West Chester University features a beautifully historic campus adjoining the Borough of West Chester which is the vibrant, eclectic heart of Chester County. West Chester also features easy access to Philadelphia.
