I received my Master's Degree in Social Work from Bryn Mawr College - School of Social Work and Social Research. I have been teaching “Foundation Practice” as an Adjunct Professor at WCU Graduate Social Work Program since August 2014. In addition, I am currently employed as a Community Moderator for BreastCancer.org (BCO), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the most reliable, complete, and up-to-date information about breast cancer and breast health as well as an active and supportive online community.

Prior to coming to WCU, I spent 30 years in both acute and community based health care settings, providing direct care to adults and children impacted by cancer. I also worked as an educator, researcher, program administrator, consultant and supervisor. I taught a post graduate course in Field Instruction at The University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice for 13 years and presented numerous continuing education courses around the country on the impact of cancer on individuals and families. I facilitated “Schwartz Rounds” for Medical Professionals for 7 years and have supervised graduate social work students in various field settings since 1986.

My special teaching and research interests have focused on:

  • Complementary Medicine for people with cancer
  • The needs of school age children impacted by parental cancer
  • Culturally Competent Cancer Care Programs for underserved communities
  • Cancer Survivorship
