Internal and External Transfer Candidates

The following policies apply to all transfer candidates upon entering the department.

  • Internal transfer candidates (undeclared major or change of major) who desire admission to the Department of Special Education may apply after the completion of 27 semester hours at West Chester University. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.65 is required for candidates with 47 or fewer earned credits and a 2.8 GPA for candidates with 48 or more earned credits.

  • External transfer candidates who desire admission to the Department of Special Education must apply for admission to West Chester University. Transfer credit will be granted for 100- and 200-level courses if the course descriptions are equivalent and in accordance with University policy. All other required courses in the professional education and specialized preparation areas will be evaluated and approved on an individual basis.

  • Both internal and external transfer candidates will be admitted as probationary teacher education candidates consistent with teacher education policy. Candidates in this category may not take designated advanced professional course work, which requires full admittance to teacher education.
