Recording Booth

The Office of Digital Learning and Innovation Recording Booth, located in Anderson Hall, is available as a resource to all WCU faculty who are teaching online courses, blended courses, or have an online component within their face-to-face courses. It is equipped with a high definition video camera, radio broadcast-quality microphone, and a dual-boot computer with commonly used recording software for both macOS and Windows. Now you can create content for your course with professional equipment without the noise and distractions of your office or home.

Reservations

The booth can be reserved on weekdays between the hours of 8:30am and 4:00pm (8:30am and 3:30pm during the summer) on days when the Office of Digital Learning and Innovation is open. To reserve time, email our Associate Instructional Designers at

. Please do not request more than a block of two hours on any one day, and sessions must stop at their scheduled ending time. Scheduling priority will be given to faculty making videos for online courses, blended courses, or courses with an online component.

 

FAQ

Can students use the booth?

No, this is a resource for WCU faculty only.

Will someone show me how to work the equipment?

One of our office's Instructional Designers is usually available by appointment to give first-time users a brief orientation of the booth's equipment. Please specify in your reservation email that you will need an orientation to make sure a designer is available at that time.

Will someone teach me how to use Camtasia or one of the other programs available on the computer?

Faculty reserving time in the booth should already have experience using the available software. Please consult IT's Software Application Training schedule for more information about upcoming training sessions.

What should I bring with me to a recording session?

  • Your planning materials (e.g. a script, notes, etc.).
  • USB headphones if you plan to include a file with sound (such as an audio or video file) as part of your final recording. This will help to prevent both the computer and the booth's microphone from recording that file's sound at the same time, which would cause an undesired echo effect.
  • USB flash drive or portable hard drive for saving the recordings you create. Files can also be saved directly into a cloud storage service (e.g. OneDrive, Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, etc.) from the booth. Please note that recording files will be regularly deleted from the booth’s computer.

Can I install my own software on the booth's computer?

This will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and the answer may be dictated by the terms of the software's license. Please contact DistanceEd@wcupa.edu
