The state Senate has confirmed Rodney Kaplan Jr., president of WCU’s Student Government Association (SGA), to serve on the Board of Governors for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education until he graduates (planned for December 2019).
Kaplan is an Honors College student majoring in both political science and economics. He was elected SGA president in April, after having previously served as treasurer. He served as a community senator for the SGA since 2015, acting as SGA liaison with the Borough of West Chester, meeting each semester with the mayor and Borough Council president and attending all Borough Council meetings.
He also is a member of the board of directors of Student Services Inc. and is student director of Sykes Student Union. As a member of WCU’s Friars’ Society service organization, he designs and implements volunteer projects to benefit both the campus and community.
Kaplan joins fellow students Brian Swatt, SGA president at Indiana University, and Joar Dahn, president of Bloomsburg University’s Community Government Association, on the 20-member board that oversees Pennsylvania’s 14 public universities. Student members participate in all Board discussions and have the same voting rights as all other members.
