Along with recognizing Global Entrepreneurship Week (Nov. 13 – 18), WCU's Cottrell Center is also honoring its 2017 Entrepreneur in Residence, Debra Blair '73. She is one of the featured presenters at the Women's Entrepreneurship Conference the center will cohost with SCORE of Chester & Delaware County on Friday, Nov. 17. The educational program focuses on how women can develop and implement a targeted, strategic approach to starting or growing a business.
Blair is owner of Debra Blair Design in New York City and one of New York's most respected interior designers. At the conference, she will share her journey and her vision of how she defines "The Steps to Success." A WCU alumna, she majored in art.
Debra Blair Design, which Blair founded in 1990, provides a full range of design services for both residential and commercial clients, from concepts to complete installation. Blair and her staff focus on creating elegant, luxurious, and livable interiors that are tailored to reflect the personalities and lifestyles of their clients.
Her clients are not only in the New York metropolitan area, but also in Charleston, Cape Cod, Nantucket, Kiawah Island, and Hawaii. Commercial work includes the design of executive offices of Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette; a book division of the Hearst Corporation; the Adelson Galleries; the Members Reading Room at the New York Society Library; and the executive penthouse apartment of Takashimaya, a Japanese luxury retailer.
Debra has been invited to participate in numerous design-related charitable events and five designer show houses including the Kips Bay Designer's Show House in New York, 2002 and 2005. Her outreach includes nine years as a member of the board of trustees at Lyndhurst, a National Trust for Historic Preservation site in Tarrytown, NY; six years as a board member of the Decorators Club, a professional club of all women interior designers organized in 1914; and she presently serves on the board of trustees of the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, NY.
Blair is joined by fellow featured presenters Marcy Shoemaker, Psy.D., director of marketing for Abramson Center, who will address the Entrepreneurial Mindset in "Set Your Mind and Set Your Direction"; and Lisa M. Bryant '87, CEO of LM Bryant Consulting whose interactive presentation is about "Facing Down Your Fears."
In addition, there is a panel of successful women who will provide attendees with "A Toolkit for Women Entrepreneurs." They'll share their unique experiences and perspectives and provide information on valuable resources women can use to move their businesses forward. Panelists include Debi Friedmann, Blue Dog Printing and Design; Tracy Flanagan, Senior Vice President, JDogFranchise, LLC; Barb Denczi, Vice President Corporate Sales, The Bryn Mawr Trust Company; and Donna Urian, CPA, MST, Fischer Cunnane & Associates, Ltd.
