This fall, the WCU Office of Sustainability is offering a series of lunchtime seminars every Wednesday through Nov. 29. President Chris Fiorentino is this week’s speaker, talking about “The Economics of Environmental Protection” in Sykes Student Union Room 209 from 12 to 12:50 p.m.
The series should appeal to a wide audience since it draws from campus experts in an array of disciplines: the sciences, political science, economics, anthropology, nutrition, art, English, public management, and communication studies. After all, explains WCU Sustainability Director Bradley Flamm, “The challenges of the problems we face in climate change will be solved by experts and engineers in more than one field. It won’t be only scientists who come up with solutions.”
Students who may be unclear about their majors or how to incorporate aspects of sustainability into their future careers may find the presentations helpful in highlighting the links between certain fields. “If we’re creating environmental, social, and economic sustainability, students need to be involved.” For the complete schedule of seminars, visit the Office of Sustainability’s website and calendar.
