A literacy program involving WCU’s Frederick Douglass Institute, Wells Fargo and the Coatesville Area School District will benefit CASD students through reading, mentorship, and scholarship.
Underwritten in part by Wells Fargo, the program creates a progressive sequence to success. Beginning in fifth grade, CASD students will participate in a reading program that will provide literature and discussion groups centering on the works of Frederick Douglass and his emphasis on education’s critical role in developing a path for personal freedom and success.
In the College Prep Academy, small groups of self-identified CASH junior and senior students will pair with WCU students for guidance and tutoring in preparation for college admission tests and essay writing, time management, and advice on what to expect when they attend college. The award of two full scholarships to qualified seniors to attend the University’s Academic Development Program, a summer bridge preparatory session, rounds out the program.
