As a result of an educational project undertaken by WCU students at The American Helicopter Museum in West Chester, the museum is being honored at the second annual History in Pennsylvania (HIP) awards ceremony on October 24.
Last fall, students in Professor Robert Kodosky's "Varieties of History" and "Modern American Military History" courses produced scripts for the museum's audio guides explaining the history, mission and technology behind some of the museum's 35 civilian and military helicopters, autogiros or convertiplanes. Each guide was checked for accuracy by local experts and targeted to the museum's visitors by age group, namely, young children, teenagers and adults.
The HIP Awards are presented by a program of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania to recognize exceptional educational and public programs, community partnership projects and stewardship and collections care.
