This track focuses on the use and applications of geospatial technologies and analysis techniques. The department offers 11 GIS courses as well as courses with integrated GIS components and exercises. Students develop skills and experience through lab assignments, course projects, internships, collaborative research and the Senior Seminar. GIS is a rapidly expanding field. It is a $5 billion global industry with double digit growth over the last decade. This track prepares students for a number of career choices and for graduate study in geography, earth sciences, planning, or related disciplines.
Advising sheets are available online. Paper copies can be found in Ruby Jones Hall, from either the department secretary in room 103, or on the bookcase across from room 104. Advising sheets are subject to change; majors should check with their advisor before registering for classes.
In addition to the general education requirements, foreign language requirements, and geography major core requirements, students in this track are required to take the following courses (9 semester hours).
Two additional elective courses (6 semester hours) are selected from other GIS courses:
Four additional geography courses (12 semester hours) are selected under advisement based on the student's interests.
