The General Geography Track is for students who have a broad interest in geography and want to have the opportunity to explore a variety of subjects in the discipline. This track prepares students for a number of career choices and for graduate study in geography, planning, or related disciplines. Students who have completed the general geography degree have gone on to work in public agencies such as the EPA, Census Bureau, CIA and Forestry service. Alumni also work in private sector consulting jobs and in the non-profit sector such as land conservancies.
Advising sheets are available online. Paper copies can be found in Ruby Jones Hall, from either the department secretary in room 103, or the bookcase across from room 104. Advising sheets are subject to change; majors should check with their advisor before registering for classes.
In addition to the general education requirements, foreign language requirements, and geography major core requirements, students in this track are required to take the following courses (9 semester hours):
Five additional elective courses (15 semester hours) are selected from set groupings that will enable the student to take a course in one of each of the following specialties:
Four additional geography courses (12 semester hours) are selected under advisement based on the student's interests.
