Travel Information

Getting to West Chester

West Chester is located in the suburbs of Philadelphia, and it is approximately a 40-minute drive from Philadelphia’s international airport and a 50-minute drive from downtown Philadelphia. Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey is approximately 111 miles/ 178 km from West Chester.

By Air

Below, you will find information on how to reach West Chester University from Philadelphia Airport (PHL) and Newark Liberty Airport (EWR), the nearest and most convenient airports, using public transportation.

JFK International and Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Airport are also in close proximity but not easily accessible via public transport.

Directions from Philadelphia Airport to West Chester University

Estimated $5-$10 dollars - 2 hours without delays

Starting from the airport take the bus on route/line 108. The route starts at Terminal B Arrivals. Take the bus to the last stop which is 69th Street Transportation Center. Upon arrival to the 69th street station make your way over to the 69th street transportation center West Terminal in order to take the Septa bus traveling on the 104 route/line. Take this bus to the end of its route which will leave you at West Chester University.

Taxis and car rentals are also available at the airport. The taxi fare is approximately $75.

Directions from Newark Airport to West Chester University

Amtrak Train
Estimated $50 ONE WAY – 2:30 hours

Amtrak offers a direct train service from Newark airport to Exton Pennsylvania, the train station closest to West Chester. The times and prices can be found on the Amtrak website. Search for trains from Newark International airport to Exton, Pennsylvania. After arriving to the Exton train station walk to the Pottstown Pike and Bartlett Avenue Bus stop near the restaurant "On The Border Mexican Grill". Take the Septa bus line 92 towards King of Prussia. The fare is $2.25 and can be paid in exact change to the bus driver upon boarding the bus. Take the bus until reaching High St & Linden St which is the west-most side of West Chester University.

From Newark Airport Terminal A, B, C take New Jersey Transit Bus #62 to reach Newark Penn Station.

From Newark Penn Station take a bus to Philadelphia. Greyhound and Peter Pan buses serve this route. The fare is about $13 dollars.

Arriving at Philadelphia (Greyhound Station) you will need to walk to the 11th Street Station. This Subway station is found at the intersection of North 11th Street and Market Station. There take the Market-Frankford Line westbound to 69th street. Upon arrival to the 69th street station make your way over to the 69th Street Transportation Center West Terminal in order to take the bus traveling on the 104 route/line. Take this bus to the end of its route which will leave you at West Chester University.

By Car

By Train

The closest train station is 10 minutes away in Exton, PA. The regional rail line Paoli/Thorndike runs through Exton to downtown Philadelphia. The national rail line Amtrak connects Exton to Philadelphia as well as New York City.

The Septa bus line 92 connects the train station to downtown West Chester. There are no taxis waiting at the train station unless they have been previously requested.

Getting around West Chester

West Chester is safe and easy to walk around. In fact, it's easy to get around just by walking. It takes approximately 10 minutes to walk from downtown West Chester to the university. There is also ample paid parking downtown both on the curb and in parking garages.

Unlike in larger U.S. cities, taxis are not able to be hailed from the street, and they need to be called to a specific location. If you need a taxi, you may call any of the numbers below:

We are pleased to offer on-campus accommodation for PALA participants. The two types of suites available are:

  • Double Occupancy (2 guests/bedroom): $35.25 per guest per night
  • Single Occupancy (1 guest per bedroom): $45.25 per guest per night

The conference will take place at WCU’s newest building, the Business and Public Management (BPM) Center. All rooms will be equipped with computers, data projectors, and a screen.
