The Off Campus & Commuter Association (OCCA) serves as a student governing body representing all off campus & commuter
students, over 69% of the campus community. OCCA also serves as a bridge between the
WCU community and the Borough of West Chester. You are automatically a member of OCCA
if you do not reside in a residence hall or on university-owned property. Join OCCA on Wednesdays from 12:00 - 1:00 pm in Sykes 10A to connect with other off
campus and commuter students and enjoy a free lunch/snack.
Welcome Back to Students
Join us on SEPTEMBER 1 FROM 6:30 - 9:30 pm for SWINGIN' SUMMER THURSDAY between High & Matlack
Streets. Find the WCU block for free food as well as discounts in the Borough.
Walk the Block
Walk the Block 2017 - TBA
Volunteers from the University & Borough will be visiting selected off campus neighborhoods
with Welcome Bags for student and non-student residents. The materials in each bag
will have information on good neighbor behaviors, Borough zoning and codes for off
campus residents, local businesses’ advertisements, calendar of events for on campus
and Borough activities & programs. Walk the Block began in August 2015 as a "West
Chester Together" initiative when members of the University and Borough communities
delivered Welcome Bags to specific off campus student neighborhoods.
OCCS on the Move
OCCS on the Move travels the campus providing free "goodies," i.e. hot coffee and
tea, hot chocolate, donuts, granola bars and/or fruit. The staff is available for
questions and answers as well as distributing handouts for upcoming events, critical
information for students, and ongoing initiatives within the office of OCCS.
Pack it Up! Pass it On!
Pack It Up! Pass It On! - This program allows for off campus students who are residing
in the Borough of West Chester to have an effective way to donate and recycle their
furniture, small appliances and other household items when they move out in the spring.
WCU works in conjunction with Chester County Habitat for Humanity to provide convenient
pick up of donated furniture at their residence.
COMMUTER ORIENTATION II 2017 - CHECK OUT YOUR SCHEDULE FOR IMPORTANT EVENTS AND PROGRAMS.
Commuter Orientation offers our new commuter students an opportunity to connect with
others who are commuting, to learn about campus resources and to receive support from
staff and student leaders in Off Campus & Commuter Association (OCCA).
Operation Clean Streets
West Chester University has launched a community service project focused on cleaning
the sidewalks within the West Chester Business Improvement District (BID). Beginning
Spring 2016, "Operation Clean Streets" is a weekly event coordinated with the office
of Off Campus & Commuter Services (OCCS) and the West Chester BID. Each student group
will volunteer 2 hours of community service during a designated Saturday or Sunday
throughout the academic year. "This is a great cooperative event between WCU and the
downtown," said Fred Gusz, a member of the BID Board of Directors. "We truly appreciate
the students' efforts to help us keep the downtown area free from litter."
Fall Festival of Service
FALL FESTIVAL OF SERVICE – This is a day of service hosted by Off Campus and Commuter Services in the southeastern
neighborhoods of the Borough of West Chester. Student volunteers provide free leaf
raking for community residents. This service will be extended into the winter months
to assist neighbors who are unable to shovel their sidewalks and/or driveways.
