West Chester University is committed to exploring and open to providing safe campus housing for all students. Single occupancy housing is available in our traditional residence halls. Suite style housing is available in our South Campus Apartments and University Student Housing residence halls.

You can access information using the resources below:

If you would like an advocate to assist you in making your request, please contact the Interim Coordinator of LGBTQA Services at 610-436-0732 or the SAGA Student Organization at 610-436-3351.

More general information on Gender Neutral Housing can be found here.

West Chester University has identified a number of single occupancy restrooms on campus. These restrooms were either initially created as single occupancy (original) or converted to single occupancy to provide more private bathroom facilities for the campus community (converted). In the converted restrooms, please make sure to lock the door when entering!

There is one single occupancy SHOWER on campus on the first floor of the Student Recreation Center.

Map of single occupancy restrooms coming soon!

Please be aware that West Chester University has been undergoing construction and renovation, therefore the below information may not be perfectly up-to-date.  Updated information will be posted by the start of the Fall 2017 semester.

Name Change

Changing your name is a legal process that is determined by the state in which you live (where you have residency). Most often you can find this information on the internet by searching for "name change" and your home state. You can also contact the Department of Motor Vehicles in your home state.

In order to formally change your name and gender marker at West Chester University, you must present a new driver's license to the Office of the Registrar (25 University Avenue).

The WCU LGBTQA Advocacy Committee has helped to create some ways to informally change your name to help facilitate a safer, more congruent process of transition.

  1. There are no gender indicators on class lists.
  2. To change your picture and name on your student identification card, contact Ms. Donna Synder Executive Director of Student Services Incorporated. You will have to pay for a replacement ID.
  3. To change the way your email address is presented, contact Mr. Frank Piscitello, Information Security.

If you would like an advocate to help you make these requests, please contact Sherry Mendez, Interim Coordinator of LGBTQA Services, by phone at 610-436-0732 or the SAGA Student Organization at 610-436-3351.
