PA Writing Project

The PA Writing & Literature Project (PAWLP) is a site of the National Writing Project. The Director is a member of the English Department faculty. PAWLP offers graduate courses and professional development workshops for teachers, in-service programs in area schools, and Young Writers summer camps for children K - 12.

This position will provide general assistance with:
General office duties such as data entry, reception/answering phones, typing, filing, copying faxing, scanning. Proof read materials for accuracy. Maintain a high degree of confidentiality of materials and information of the department. Run errands on campus for the department. Assist with on-going and special projects as needed.
Specific duties as they relate to this department:
Make photocopies, collate and staple materials for classes, assist with preparation of supplies for Young Writers camps and workshops for teachers, proof read documents for accuracy, file registration information for camps and courses.
Learning Outcomes:
The student will learn basic office procedures and skills, customer service skills, and will gain experience working in a team environment.

Position Responsibilities:

• Being responsible for/or providing services to anyone under the age of 18
This position will provide general assistance with:
The summer work study student will assist with the Young Writers camps. FWS student must have all clearances to work with the campers. Assist with supplies, registrations, and other preparations for camps as well as work with the students in the classrooms under the supervision of the regular teacher.
Specific duties as they relate to this department:
This position provides support to the Young Writers summer camps. FWS student will gain valuable experience in the classroom working with children under the direct supervision of the regular teacher. FWS student must have current clearances to work with children under 18. The summer Young Writers camps are July 6 - 31, 2015, from 1 - 4 pm on the campus of West Chester University.
Learning Outcomes:
This experience will benefit the student whose career goal is to become a teacher. You will work with outstanding classroom teachers who have been trained by the National Writing Project in best practices for teaching writing and reading skills. Work with small classes of no more than 15 students. Learn valuable ways to make learning how to write enjoyable as well as good classroom management techniques.
