Position Responsibilities:

Involves the following:
• Confidential or sensitive data/information
• Handling cash, checks, or credit card transactions
• Being responsible for/or providing services to anyone under the age of 18
This position will provide general assistance with:
Conducting a community based program in physical activity, sports, swimming, and exercise for 90 people with disabilites in our community.
Specific duties as they relate to this department:
The student workers in the Special Physical Activity Program must have the following: Effective oral and written communication skills to make phone calls to parents of children with disabilities independently and write or type responses to these calls Effective interpersonal skills to greet parents and children with disabilities each night of the Special Physical Activity programs and answer questions about the program, dates, places to meet etc Physical activity skills to lift at least 35 lbs, carry large and small PE equipment from one place to another, run after children who are fleeing, see hazards and correct them in the PE and Pool environment, clean and organize many pieces of equimpment for the program File medical forms, gleen info from the forms to make type and organize personal profiles, take photos and embed them into certificates, forms, and make newsletters Use the copy machine, Ipad, laptop, printer, fax machine, scanner and other electronic items to support the community based programs Need to have negative tb test, and no child related PA criminal background reports, PA child abuse clearance, FBI fingerprint clearance . Need to be comfortable hands on assisting people with disabilities as that is the main function of the program is to support the physical activity programs that are run on and off campus for the good of WCU students and our community Must wear WCU Special PE uniform (We buy a shirt for you), sneakers, black or navy pants, not jeans, wear modest dress to office, be a non-smoker (office mate allergic to smoke smell), no strong perfumes or cologne, be friendly, cooperative, work in a team like members with 30 other people who are volunteering, and have initiative. Possible work available through June 1 of each year.
Learning Outcomes:
Studen Workers will gain confidence in communicating with their peers in a team-like manner to cooperatively provide this community service to people with disabilities and their family They will gain knowledge, skills and positive attitudes toward individuals with disabilites and theri potential They will gain skills in managing children and young adults with disabilities in a physical activity and wellness setting They will gain skills in knowledge of equipment, setting and lesson adaptations for people with disabilities they will gain skills in computer work, newsletter formation, phone skills, filing, document creation.
