Information for Parents

Studying abroad is a unique opportunity for personal growth, and having worked with thousands of students over the course of our careers, the professional staffs at CIP have seen firsthand how much of a positive impact it has on participating students.

Financial Aid

Studying abroad generally costs more than a normal semester at WCU and similar to the cost of a semester at WCU for out-of-state students. Although studying abroad requirements Please visit the scholarships and financial aid section of our website for more information.

Health and Safety

WCU performs a detailed health and safety check of all faculty and staff led programs before they are officially approved, and closely monitor the political and environmental climates to ensure that we are only sending students to locations where it is safe to study. The same risks apply to study abroad programs as all other domestic and international travel, but our veteran staff has a detailed emergency management system in place to ensure the best possible service in the event of an emergency abroad. WCU requires that all students have international medical evacuation and repatriation insurance.

Career Development

We work closely with our Twardowski Career Development Center, who confirms that more and more employers are expecting job applicants to have some type of international experience on their resumes. Our career center offers services with resume and interview preparation to help student best express the skills that they gained studying abroad to potential employers. Many study abroad programs offer an internship or service learning component which is highly recommended.

WCU is a commitment partner of Generation Study Abroad , a national movement to double US student participation in study abroad
