Teaching: I teach in the Linguistics and Spanish programs at WCU. My teaching comprises the whole Spanish language sequence as well as courses for our Spanish major and culture cluster. In the Linguistics program, I teach introductory courses and LIN211, a course on language and discrimination. I am currently working on two new GenEd courses on language diversity and language change.

Research: I am historical sociolinguist. My researches focuses on dialect and language contact, especially in the Spanish colonial period, as well as on the history of Spanish in the US Southwest, and, more recently, on the influence of language ideology on the teaching of linguistics and on language history research. I have published some ten peer-reviewed papers and an edited collection on online language teaching. I am currently working on a monograph on language contact in the history of Spanish, to be published by Edinburgh University Press.

Service: In addition to numerous departmental, college and university committees, I have recently been most active in the Faculty Senate, which I have been a part of for over six years. I am currently chairing an ad-hoc committee on faculty research within Senate. I was also interim department chair between Spring 2015 and Summer 2016.

Interests/Passions Outside of Academe: Hiking, camping, traveling, visiting historical or natural sites, and hanging out with my very hyper (but very cute) Goldador puppy.

Times when I can meet: Usually Monday through Wednesday in West Chester, early afternoon, or Thursdays elsewhere (for coffee or lunch).
