This fourth Knowledge Crossing Borders Conference / Congreso Internacional sobre la Educación Superior (CIESUP) 2016 conference offers opportunities to build and expand on the cumulative knowledge of the last three conferences centered on the mission of: building a sustainable future through global partnerships in higher education.

While there is much to celebrate about the general progress in the world to reduce poverty and inequality, increase cooperation and reconciliation, and foster the freedom of more and more people to be able to innovate and prosper, any day's headlines inform us that conflicts, insecurities and unresolved issues persist. As we teach, research and promote the examination of these advances and problems as global citizens, the theme for this year's conference arises: to work together to engage the changes and challenges of global citizenship.

More than ever, we need authentic two-way transnational and cross-cultural exchanges - abroad and around the corner - in order to better understand others and ourselves, and how we are evolving through contemporary institutions and structures that shape, limit, and challenge us.

In this conference, we look forward to seeing through the varied lenses of administrators, faculty, staff and students to assess, debate and discuss the influences and impacts of our teaching and research in and across our respective disciplines, nations and regions, as we consider the many ways to be global citizens.

Our abilities to cooperate, innovate and move forward together through the many roles we play in education depend on the international relations and networks we build through opportunities like this conference. We welcome you to join us in this endeavor.
