Hyunsoo Kim Headshot

Dr. Hyunsoo Kim

Assistant Professor, Department of Kinesiology

Dr. Hyunsoo Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology, joining the WCU faculty in the Fall 2015 Semester. Dr. Kim teaches Biomechanics and Kinetic Anatomy. Dr. Kim is a Certified Athletic Trainer. In addition to teaching and conducting research, Dr. Kim has over a decade of Athletic Training experience.

Dr. Kim’s research interests have focused on understanding the neuromuscular contributions to dynamic joint stability during functional activities. He is particularly interested in neuromuscular control strategies in patients with ankle instability, and exercise-induced alterations of sensorimotor function. include the mechanical factors underlying athletic performance and injury mechanisms, as well as the integration of motor learning with biomechanics as it relates to movement skill acquisition. He is planning to conduct intervention studies assessing the effect of neuromuscular training on the prevention and rehabilitation of lower-extremity injury. In addition, his future research would be more focused on contributions of joint instability and altered movement patterns to the development of joint disease such as osteoarthritis, affecting quality of life. He has peer-reviewed publications in journals such as the Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, International Journal of Sports Medicine, Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports, Journal of Athletic Training and the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Dr. Kim received his PhD in Exercise Sciences with an emphasis in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He completed his Master's Degree in Athletic Training at University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He also completed another Master’s Degree in Biomechanics at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. Dr. Kim completed his BA degree in Physical Education at Yonsei University.
