Becoming a WZ Mentor:

Qualifications:

We are looking for outgoing, mature, skilled writers and students who can serve as role models to youth. Preferencence is given to individuals who are currently enrolled in, or have successfully completed one or more of the following courses at WCU:
English 390,
English 392,
English 397.

Applicants should also meet the following requirements:

-At least 30 credits of university work completed.
-Ability to demonstrate strong and resourceful writing skills.
-Should show an interest in helping youth to become stronger writers and more ambitious students.
-Applicants must be available to work during WZ hours.
-Applicants must be available to attend a training session.

How does the program work?

Writing Zones sites are staffed by teams of three core mentors and five to ten service learning mentors.  All mentors are undergraduate or graduate West Chester University students, selected and trained by Writing Zones.  Mentors receive ongoing professional development and supervision. Core mentors commit to 6-9 hours per week; service learning and volunteer mentors commit to three hours per week.
