Thomas J. Seifried’s father was a career Air Force officer, hence Tom’s roots extend from the southern and Midwestern states and Europe.  This father of two and grandfather of three also was a career flyer, retiring from the Air Force with nearly 30 years service in 1995.  Military assignments included seven locations overseas and eight states here at home.  Prior to coming to WCU in 2002, Dr. Seifried was an Associate Professor at the Air Force Academy; survival and navigation instructor; commander of four separate units; and a Career Services Counselor at Penn State Delaware County.  He is a certified High School teacher in both Oklahoma and Pennsylvania with a B.S. degree in Business Logistics, an M.A. degree in Guidance & Counseling, and a D.Ed. degree in Adult Education & Counselor Education. His hobbies include doing whatever his wife says, instructing Statistics at Penn State and teaching High School Driver’s Training as well as being a Behind-the-Wheel instructor/examiner.  Concept of advising:  Assisting the students to develop the ability and confidence to make their various academic and life decisions, initially as one that “walks along side them."
