With over 30 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Conlon has continually worked to empower students to meet their educational goals. While working in a variety of settings - public, private, 2-year/4 year, small and large - with diverse student populations, she has sought to consistently improve the quality of the educational experience for students. Because of her dedication to first year students and transfer students, she has created or enhanced the First Year Experience at Syracuse University and SUNY at Stony Brook.
Most recently, while at Rosemont College, Joanne led the creation of the federal grant-funded unit of services which included academic advising, learning support services, and experiential learning. Because of those activities, she became a sought-after speaker at national conferences regarding the intertwining of strengths-based techniques and campus information systems with academic support services. She has also been active in her professional assocations by serving on regional boards and national committees and presenting widely both regionally and nationally.
Dr. Conlon earned an Outstanding Service award for her service to the Administrative Leadership Commission from College Student Educators International professional association. In 2008, Dr. Conlon was selected by the College Student Educators International's Educational Leadership Foundation as a Diamond Honoree for her "significant and sustained service to student affairs, to students, and to higher education". In addition, in the spring of 2008, Dr. Conlon received the Jefferson Professional Achievement Award for the Jefferson Community College Alumni Association.
