About the Academic Development Program
The mission of the Academic Development Program (ADP) is to provide an opportunity for admission to West Chester University for selected students who do not meet current admissions requirements but who still show the potential to succeed in college. The Program assists students in developing basic academic skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and speaking. In addition, the Program provides academic support for students through academic advising, tutoring, mentoring and academic monitoring, counseling, financial aid assistance, and cultural enrichment. Sensitive to the unique differences among individual students, the Program endeavors to create an inclusive community environment conducive to learning and holistic development.
Students admitted to the Program receive a head start on their college studies because they will already have completed some required courses during the summer session. They enter the fall semester with increased academic confidence and familiarity with the campus culture and University procedures.
ADP services and support from the summer continue into the academic year and beyond. All of these advantages, and more, aid students in the transition from high school to college.
