West Chester University
Each year, the Office of Residence Life and Housing Services and the University offer a number of special activities for students to participate in. Here are just a few:
Whether students either come to campus for the first time or are back for a second, third or fourth year, there is a lot of excitement and activity that goes on here at WCU in late August. However, there is also a lot of waste material that is generated as well!! As one of the first activities of the year, we ask students to separate out any cardboard they will be disposing of after they have moved in. Residence Hall staff will let you know the designated location where these materials can be placed so they are handled appropriately - recycled instead of put into the waste stream. Everyone's cooperation is appreciated.
For a number of years, the University has supported a "Don't Throw It Out" program at the end of the spring semester. As residents are packing to go home, they can place reusable items (clothes, electronics, etc.) and unused food and toiletries in designated locations in their building or complex rather than throw them out. These items are collected after finals are over and are donated to local not-for-profit agencies where the items can be put to the best use. Look for information about this later in April and let your unwanted items help out someone else!
Numerous campus events occur in conjunction with the annual celebration of Earth Day. Many of these events are put on by student groups or individual students. Check out the Environmental Council Events Page to get more details about these events.
We hope to add additional events to our regular schedule of activities and programs, such as Building vs. Building recycling or energy conservation competitions, special programs focusing on different sustainability issues, and others. If you are interested in getting one of these programs off of the ground, or if you have ideas for other possible events, please contact Peter Galloway, Director of Housing Services, at 610-436-3307.
Clean up events will be detailed here.
