The Undergraduate Department of Social Work of West Chester University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning in August 2010. Rank and salary are dependent on qualifications. This position is in our BSW program. West Chester University, a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, is a public, regional, comprehensive institution committed to providing access and offering high-quality undergraduate education, select post-baccalaureate and graduate programs, and a variety of educational and cultural resources for its students, alumni, and citizens of southeastern Pennsylvania.

The Department currently has five (5) experienced social work educators, a Director of Field, and a team of dedicated adjunct faculty. The BSW program has been a leader in undergraduate social work education in Pennsylvania and has distinguished itself on a national level since its initial accreditation in 1973. Since we must prepare students for practice as required by EPAS, the purpose of our department is to prepare Baccalaureate Social Work majors as entry-level generalist social workers capable of meeting the challenges faced by social workers in the surrounding metropolitan, suburban, and rural areas. Students are prepared for graduate study for the Master in Social Work upon successful completion of the BSW Program. The BSW program has been re-accredited through 2011. Our program is currently preparing for both the CSWE reaffirmation process and Middle-States re-accreditation process.

Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities teaching at the undergraduate social work level with an emphasis on HBSE, Diversity, and Mezzo/Macro Practice. Candidates are expected to teach in all areas across the curriculum. Additional responsibilities include service, participating in department, college, university, and community activities; student advising; participating in BSW curriculum development, and developing a scholarly agenda consistent with the university Teach-Scholar model. Candidates are expected to contribute to the academic mission of the University as reflected in the Plan for Excellence and the universitys commitment to Diversity and global perspectives, which promote academic excellence for the University.

Requirements: Candidates must possess a doctorate in social work or a related field, a masters degree in social work from a CSWE accredited university, at least two years of post-masters direct practice experience. Prior teaching experience in a CSWE accredited social work program and undergraduate teaching experience are required. Applicants for associate professor must have five years of teaching experience in a CSWE accredited social work program. an academic record that would warrant an appointment at the rank of associate professor including a demonstrable track-record of excellence in teaching, service, practice and research. For consideration for either academic rank, skills in using educational technology, including experience developing on-line course and/or teaching on-line classes is desirable, but not required. In addition, a licensed or license-eligible social worker is strongly preferred. The candidate should also demonstrate accomplishments in achieving and sustaining diversity among students, faculty, and staff, as well as incorporating both community and global perspectives in related activities.
