10-20 Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Philosophy

West Chester University of Pennsylvanias Department of Philosophy invites applicants for an Assistant Professor of Philosophy, tenure-track position to begin August 2010. AOS: Social and/or Political Philosophy AOC: Introductory and Advanced Logic. Courses in Introduction to Philosophy and Logic (a core requirement for our majors) will be regular classes in the candidates teaching assignment. The candidate should also be prepared and willing to teach an occasional advanced (symbolic) logic course. Normal teaching load 12 hrs/semester. Undergraduate education is the departments primary mission and preference will also be given to the candidate who demonstrates ability to integrate diversity into the curriculum and pedagogical practices. The Philosophy Department is committed to the notion of shared governance, so candidates with administrative interest and aptitude will be preferred. The Department awards both BA and MA degrees and has Certificate Programs in Applied Ethics at the graduate level. The College of Arts and Sciences offers teaching opportunities in the Honors College, Peace and Conflict Studies, and Womens Studies. The University is also home to the Frederick Douglass Institute.

Qualifications: Evidence of scholarly aptitude and earned Ph.D. in Philosophy required; completion of the Ph.D. preferred on or before June 30, 2010, but required by August 30, 2010.
