Undergraduate Commencement

Farrell Stadium

West Chester University will have two undergraduate ceremonies on May 10th. There will be one in the morning and one in the afternoon, to distribute the colleges.

The graduates start to process 25 minutes before the start of the ceremony. Please be in your seat before the procession begins.

Live video streaming of the West Chester University 140th Commencement will be freely available online by clicking here or on any of the photo tabs labeled "Live Video Stream". The livestream will be active at 9:30 am EST on Saturday, May 10, 2014. After the ceremony, the commencement video will be archived and available for future viewing. May 2014 Speaker

Brigadier General Carol Eggert

Brigadier General Carol Eggert
The speaker for both ceremonies will be Brigadier General Carol Eggert, who is assigned as the Assistant Adjutant General, Joint Force Headquarters, Pennsylvania National Guard and Deputy Commanding General-Reserve Affairs, at the United States War College. Read more.

Undergraduate students only. Graduates report to South Campus at 8:30 am.

Parking

Morning ceremony students and guests are strongly encouraged to park in the M Lot parking areas and take the shuttle bus down to the stadium.

Shuttle buses will run continuously to and from Farrell Stadium from 7:00 am - 1:30 pm. After 1:30 pm the shuttle buses will no longer run to M Lot. If you miss the last bus, shuttle buses will be running to Lawrence Dining Hall in the afternoon.

Handicap parking

Handicap parking will be very limited and will be on a first-come basis. Handicap spectators will be allowed to be dropped off at the main entrance to Farrell Stadium. One (1) family member will be allowed to accompany one handicap or mobility-impaired person to the special seating area located on the track of Farrell Stadium. No exceptions will be made.

Afternoon ceremony students and their guests are strongly encouraged to park in the following places:

If you choose to park along the street and use a meter, please keep in mind that the meters are patrolled by West Chester Borough and are enforced beginning at 5 pm Saturday afternoon. Shuttle buses will be picking up & dropping off guests parked in the above lots from D-lot ( Lawrence Dining Hall). Shuttle buses will not be running from the M Lot parking areas for the afternoon ceremony.

Friday, May 9, 2014

11:00 am: Commencement rehearsal for Undergraduates in the Hollinger Field House.

Immediately following commencement rehearsal, students can go to the Alumni House, 101 Norfolk Ave (next to Sykes, behind Messikomer/Admissions), for a FREE brunch, sponsored by the WCU Alumni Association (WCUAA).

The brunch is being held to congratulate graduates and to welcome them to the WCUAA. It will include an assortment of food, prizes, an opportunity to network with alumni, information on how to get discounted health, auto, and renters insurance, a special appearance by Rammy, and much more.

Faculty participation in rehearsal is optional.

Undergraduate Commencement

(Two ceremonies: Morning at 10:00 am, Afternoon at 3:00 pm.)

*Guests should be seated 45 minutes before the start of the ceremony. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. No tickets are required for the outdoor ceremonies.

*If the ceremonies move indoors due to severe weather, commencement will then be held in Hollinger Fieldhouse and tickets will be required. Each graduate will be mailed 2 tickets in advance of the ceremony. Tickets are for an indoor ceremony only.

Graduate Commencement

7:00 pm

Guests should be seated 45 minutes before the start of the ceremony. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. No tickets are required. Seats have been set aside for people with disabilities in need of special seating. Those requiring special seating should check in with an usher when they arrive.

A Commencement rehearsal for all graduates will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 11:00 am, in Hollinger Field House.

Post-Rehearsal Alumni Brunch at Alumni House, 101 Norfolk Ave (next to Sykes, behind Messikomer/Admissions)


Caps & Gowns:

Caps/Gowns ordered through the Oak Hall webpage may be picked up at the WCU bookstore beginning Monday, April 28, 2014:

  • Monday-Thursday: 8:00 am-6:00 pm
  • Fridays: 8:00 am-4:00 pm

Friday, May 9, 2014 at 1:00 pm is the last day to pick up your cap/gown.

If you missed the opportunity to order your Cap/Gown via the Oak Hall webpage, then you must pick up a Cap/Gown at the WCU Bookstore during the dates/times listed above.


Shoes:

For May outdoor ceremonies only: Students are NOT PERMITTED to wear heels due to the surface covering the football field.

Acceptable footwear: Flat-bottomed shoes and wedges are fine.


For Everyone:

Bags:

No bags will be allowed in the stadium for Commencement. All handbags will be searched prior to entering Farrell Stadium.


Safety message:

As is per normal for this time of year, the weather forecast for the day of commencement may be very hot. Remember to keep hydrated for the duration of the event, avoid alcohol, and wear light-colored clothing. Patrons will be allowed to bring unopened bottles of water into the stadium. Remember that children and the elderly are most at risk to heat exposure. Keep abreast of the weather forecast for the day of commencement and plan accordingly.
