Scholarship Recipients

Julie Joanne Karcher is a senior at West Chest university seeking a BS degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Statistics. Currently her GPS is 3.81, and she is on track to graduate in the fall of 2007. After graduation she is seriously pursuing a Master's degree in Mathematics and is currently exploring summer internships in statistics, insurance and actuarial positions. Ms. Karcher is the captain of the WCU Women's Soccer Team which has recently returned form Pensacola, Florida from the Final Four in the NCAA tournament. The team also won the PSAC championship. She has been on the National Dean's List for 3 years, was the EPYSA Academic / Athlete of the Year in 2005 and received the ESPN Academic Award in 2005 and 2006.

Timothy Mack is a junior at West Chester University who transferred from Delaware Community College and is working on a degree in Biology. His ultimate goal is to attend medical school with an especially keen interest in addressing the needs of under-served communities as a family practitioner. Working in clinic and hospital environments in Lancaster and Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, has solidified Mr. Mack's desire to work in the health-care environment. He also aspired to participate in international programs, such as Doctors Without Borders, and to work to open / manage / clinics in underserved areas both domestically and abroad. Mr. mack, a nontraditional student, has worked as a computer technical, church outreach programs for the homeless and in skateboard clinics. Mr. Mack has an overall GPA of 4.0 at WCU and is on both the WCU College of Arts and Sciences List and a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honors Society.

Loc H. Quach is a senior majoring in Geography and Biology has post graduation plans focused on attending medical school to become a primary chare physician. His interest in Geography focus on the use of Geographic Information Systems to map and analyze the spatial distribution of diseases and the tracking / prediciton of possible epidemics. Mr. Quach has taken a number of courses in science and technology, which, although not directly required for his major(s), do broaden his understanding of the needs and applications of both in his chosen career path. Hs is on the WCU Dean's List, was selected as the Delaware Valley Geographic ssocaiation Outstanding student (Spring 2006), an emergency room volunteer (Chester County Hospital), and acute rehab gym volunteer at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.

We are proud to offer the NASA - Pennsylvania Space Grant Consortium scholarships to these three scholars and wish them the best in their careers and studies.
