Summon - OneSearch at WCU Libraries

What is Summon?

Summon – called OneSearch at WCU Libraries – allows you to do a fast search through all types of resources in the libraries’ many collections in print and online. You will find print books, music recordings or DVDs at FHG or Presser Libraries as well as results from the libraries’ many databases: articles in online journals, newspapers, e-books, online audio/music, and online video.

What is included in OneSearch?

  • records from the PILOT Library Catalog for print and other resources (NOTE: Records are updated periodically; for new items use PILOT)
  • journal, newspaper and magazine articles and citations from the libraries’ database and e-journal collections such as:
    • National Newspapers Core (ProQuest)
    • Articles and eBooks in EBSCO databases (e.g. Academic Search Complete, Education Research Complete, etc.)
    • PsycINFO (ProQuest)
    • JSTOR
    • Project Muse
  • Entries from online book collections such as Credo and Blackwell Reference Online
  • Online music and video from Alexander Street Press, Naxos Music Library and other library databases
  • Open access resources in the public domain from the HathiTrust Digital Library.
[NOTE: (1/11/2014), HathiTrust materials are now available!]

Overwhelmed with results?

Use the limiters on the left-side menu to narrow your search results by:
  • Full text only
  • Scholarly peer-reviewed articles
  • Items in the library catalog
  • Content Type - such as books, journal articles, newspaper articles, music recordings, etc.
  • Subject Term
  • Date Range
  • Library Location

or Not finding what you need?

Many databases have their own specialized searching so it may be more effective to go directly to the subject-specific database. See the Databases tab on the Libraries’ homepage.

At WCU Libraries we have been testing and refining OneSearch but we still find new ways to make it more effective. It’s an evolving service, so please use it and send us your Feedback!
