The first Senior Class trip was held in May, 1896. 105 Seniors and various members of the faculty, under the guidance of Dr. Philips, traveled to Washington for a three day trip. The party stayed at the Riggs Hotel from which they visited the city. The tour included attending a session of the Senate and a boat trip to Mt. Vernon with dancing on the deck. The highlight of that first trip was when each member of the class was introduced to President Cleveland by Dr. Philips.
