How to access Library databases from off-campus
Library databases are licensed for the use of West Chester University students, faculty and staff and most databases can be accessed from any computer on campus. If you are off-campus you can access the databases using your WCU ID card or your WCU username & password.
When you select one of the library database links from off-campus, you will see the Keystone Library Network PASS Patron Authentication System web page.
Two ways to log in:
> With your WCU Username/Password, just as for WCU Webmail.
> Using the Library barcode number on your WCU ID card plus your last name [NEW security, January 2008]
Library barcode numbers are on the front or back of your ID card and are either 16-digits - beginning 601.... or 14 -digits beginning 217....
Your card must have been previously activated at the Library Circulation Desk. (call 610.436.2946 for help)
Problems?
Here are the most common problems in gaining access:
- You obtained your ID card recently and it is not activated.
Take your card to the Library Circulation Desk to get it activated.
- The number is entered incorrectly. Check your number and enter it again. Count the number of characters that appear. The number should match the number of characters (numbers) on your card.
- Your browser, ISP (Internet Service Provider) connection, or other ways a home computer may be set up are incompatible with access.
If you have AOL (America Online) or use other proprietary browsers, minimize the window and click on Internet Explorer.
The version of Internet Explorer may need to be at least IE 5.5. If you have a firewall such as Symantec's Norton Personal Firewall, this may cause problems with access. If you recently installed a DSL or cable connections, reset your favorites or shortcuts (see next).
The link to the database has changed and your favorite or shortcut on your Desktop is an old link. Update and reset your favorites or shortcuts by removing the old one, go to the Library Home Page, go to WCU Indexes and Databases, access the database, and reset your favorite or shortcut in Internet Explorer.
- The database is temporarily unavailable. Please wait 20 minutes and try again. At times database systems are down and WCU has no control of this situation.
