Is your handset plugged in? Does your handset sound "crackly?" Is the handset cord frayed or damaged? Can you replace it with a new one? Does that make any difference?
If you hear static, tap your mouthpiece. Is your phone forwarded? Dial 73 to remove call forwarding. Did someone spill coke or coffee on the dial? Replace the phone instantly Dry the phone, and clean it. Good luck.
Is it plugged into the telephone wall socket? Have you walked from one side of your desk to another with the handset and pulled it out of its jack? Is the transformer plugged into the wall socket? Some speaker phones and some feature phones need commercial power.
Do you have a spare phone? Can you unplug the troublesome phone and plug a new one in (or, better, one that you know works)?
Check all you phone's feature buttons -- like display or programming.
Check all the volume control and ringer buttons, slides and controls. Did you switch your bell off? Have you turned it down too far?
