West Chester
University proudly celebrates
25 Years of Honors Education!
On November 3, 2007 alumni, parents, students, and
friends of West Chester University gathered at the Arts
Scene in West Chester to celebrate the 25th
Anniversary of the WCU Honors College. Thanks to the
planning direction of Art Professor Donna Usher and a
committee of alumni, over 160 people attended the
cocktail reception and paid special tribute to former
Honors College directors Dr. Walter J. Hipple and Dr.
Elizabeth Larsen, past and present college faculty,
executives of the Honors Student Association, and
President Madeleine Wing Adler.
In addition to commemorating 25 years
of Honors, Provost, Dr. Linda Lamwers announced the
establishment of the Edythe M. Trapnell Honors
Endowment. The endowment totaling $153,996 will support
Honors and its students by providing additional funding
for scholarships ear marked to support international
study, enhanced programs and educational experiences.
If you haven't had an opportunity to contribute to the
endowment and would wish to, please contact the Honors
College office.
The Honors College, lead by current
director and professor of Communication Studies Dr.
Kevin W. Dean, has a strong commitment to liberal arts
and cross disciplinary education. It stresses to its
180 students the development of leadership through
community investment and has adapted the motto “To
be honorable is to serve.” The Honors
College has graduated nearly 400 students from 37
different academic programs and continues to service the
